Some simple Visual FoxPro code for retrieving the Longitude and Latitude for a given address.
Visual FoxPro's APPEND FROM and COPY TO commands are incapable of dealing with the Excel 2007 formats. In this post, I present a pretty decent solution to this problem allowing Visual FoxPro developers to import from, export to, and even create the new Excel formats (XLS, XLSX, XLSM, and XLSB) even if Office 2007 isn't installed on the machine running this code.

Here I present a super-simple backup solution for Visual FoxPro applications that can be implemented simply by including an exe and generating an ini file.
This update to the VFPCompression FLL provides fixes for issues with relative pathing when zipping folders and files that caused the previous versions of the FLL to fail unless a developer told the function to ignore pathing.

I used .NET Interop to create an ActiveX control that can be used to host a XAML UserControl in COM-aware languages such as Visual FoxPro and Visual Basic. A few examples are provided of XAML controls and animation being run in a Visual FoxPro form.
The Visual FoxPro extended MAPI FLL gets another facelift. This update adds additional useful functions to the library while maintaining backward compatibility with existing codebase that utilizes the previous two versions.

Secure license generation is a snap using the new vfpencryption.fll. The example in this blog entry is based on something I saw Phil Fresle do in Visual Basic.
I've added a Hash() function to the VFP Encryption FLL that gives Visual FoxPro developers access to the SHA1, SHA256, SHA384, SHA512, MD5, RIPEMD128, and RIPEMD160 hash functions.

I have added AES (Rijndael) to the vfpencryption library. It now contains (Blowfish and AES)
I wrote an FLL today that gives Visual FoxPro developers easy access to the powerful Blowfish cipher. This provides a straight-forward way to encrypt and decrypt strings in Visual FoxPro. Example code and download link are provided.

There are many 3rd party components available that can help when it comes to email and VFP. This entry works with JMail.
If your users use Outlook Express and you want to negate some of the size restriction that comes with ShellExecute, you can use WinExec to send emails from your VFP application.
As long as you don't need to send attachments and your emails are fairly brief, then ShellExecute can be used.
